Ponting should respect his own stature now and behave properly !

January 31st 2008 12:10
Ricky Ponting should consider himself very lucky that he got away without being warned or reprimanded for his disruptive role in the Harbhajan Singh-Andrew Symonds murky row.The fresh evidence through the stump mikes have proved that Ponting was coercing the on field umpire to act against Harbhajan Singh when the said umpire had heard nothing himself. It is very clear now that all the event was preplanned and it was weaved to entrap harbhajan in the racial row.It is surprising then that the Australian caption was not hauled up and asked to be honest and sportive in future.
It is a glaring fact that International Cricket Council, ICC, officials like Mark Procter have been discriminating against Indian players for many years now. There have been many instances when Indian players were singled out and reprimanded for the non existent offences committed by them.Where as these officials would overlook the same conduct of white players even after brought to their notice.Rahul Dravid was abused by Allan Donald and Michael Slater but they were not even asked to behave properly.Sachin Tendulkar was accused of ball tampering but Micheal Artherton was not warned for the far more grave offence of that nature.

After the tour of India,Ponting was determined to teach some lessons to Indian players like Harbhajan Singh and others.A conspiracy was hatched and Harbhajan was entrapped.Their strategy was working according to the script and the match referee along with the umpires toed the line they were asked to follow. But in the process they forgot about a certain Sachin Tendulkar.Once Sachin gave clean chit to Harbhajan Singh and urged BCCI to act tough, the whole country took notice of that. The gross neglect of Sachin's version of the event and the apparent bias shown by Mike Procter added fuel to the fire.

Australians have been using their mental disintegration tactics very effectively against all the opponents for many years.Asian countries have been at the receiving ends most of the times .Macgrath,Slater and Peterson are not even warned for their abusive behavior whereas many Indian players are banned for excessive appealing.Mike Procter prohibits the caption of Pakistan for claiming a catch which had bounced before he caught. But the same offence of Micheal Clark goes unnoticed.Ricki Ponting would have thought that they would again go unpunished and indulge in all kind of unsporting behaviour to hold on to the record of consecutive win in sixteen tests. But his strategy backfired and he had to eat humble pie.Ricki Ponting was successful to some extent that he somehow manged to clinch the test series and got away without inviting any major punishment for himself.
