England Win the T20 World Cup
May 18th 2010 03:50
England have finally won something in the limited overs format of the game. and it happened in the T20 final against their main rivals, the Aussies. A great performance from their bowlers set up the victory but their batsmen didn't falter either making short work of the runs required.
It was two South African born layers that got England home, Kevin Peiterson and Craig Kieswetter. Their 111 run partnership all but guaranteed England Victory and with three overs remaining the captain, Paul Collingwood hit the winning runs.
This win delivers the first big blow to England before the Ashes are due to start later this year. However, the majority of England's team won't be playing in their test team with the likes of Cook, Bell and Prior to come back in. So the damage that inficted may not be as big as the Australians might fear but there is still room for concern.
The Australians however had something to celebrate as the Australian womens team beat New Zealand in the final of the Women's T20 World Cup. The Australians won the toss and batted first making a modest 106 but were able to defend, with the run chase going down to the final ball.
