Clarke Makes Me Eating My Words
March 1st 2010 07:54
In my last post I bagged out one Micheal Clarke about his lack of Twenty20 credentials and now I'm made to eat my words. He went out last night and almost smashed Australia to victory.
His 67 off 45 balls along with Cameron White's 64 off 26 balls tied the game with New Zealand who made 214 after batting first in the second Twenty20 in New Zealand. This was after I questioned Clarke's position in the side. So for once I'm glad to be proven wrong, very wrong in fact.
While Australia didn't win the match after a super over was required to determine a winner, it shows that Clarke is more than capable of scoring at a quick rate in this form of the game. As well on another note it was Australia's first loss of the summer (even if it occurred on the last day of summer) and will have people working out strategies for the super over should it be required again. With the Twenty20 World Championship coming up, it is fair to say that it will be soon. But that is a discussion for another day.
For now Micheal Clarke has proven to be the player Australia will need to blood new life into the Australian team once Punter moves on from all forms of cricket, which doesn't seem to be anytime soon.
