Cricketing Brain - June 2010

Bold Ashes Predictions

June 4th 2010 06:01
I know that the Ashes are a long way off, starting in November, but for every Englishman and every Australian it feels a lot closer. Now a lot of sites every year start each season, event or match claiming to have bold preditions of what is in store. So to up hold this fine tradition of getting absolutly nothing right I will predict the good, the bad and the ugly for the 2010/11 Ashes series.

THE GOOD
The Australians after winning back the Ashes in a dour affair, the series ends at 1-0. This occurs after Strauss bats for 3 days straight and forgets his bowlers can't bowl. That may be bold but I can't see England winning with the side they have. None of their bowlers, most of which have toured here in the past, will provide much of a threat in Australian conditions. With most of the team that toured England last year having more Test cricket under their belt Australia are looking stronger. The Australian bowling attack was magnificent at home during the 2009/10 home season and they will have benefitted from time off.

THE BAD
Freddie Flintoff. While not part of the touring team Freddie brings a touring party over for the series and ends up doing a Greg Richie and invading the field when someone scores a double ton. Unfortunatly for him not only is he the only invading the field but he is running out to celebrate Ricky Ponting's double ton in the first session of the first test. As well poor Andrew Strauss struggles to score a single run in any of the tests with Ponting bringing Nathan Hauritz on as opener and Hauritz getting him out ever time.

THE UGLY
The Commentating. Due to the lack luster crciket on display the usual up beat and positive Tony Grieg and Bill Lawry struggle to stay awake. With the ratings for the cricket at an all time low Richie Benaud decides to pull stumps on his commentating career and focus on his vineyard in France.
